Two new books, No Talking and DOGKU are in bookstores now.

5-20-07 Edgar Award

Room One has won an Edgar Award. The Edgar Allan Poe Awards are presented each year by the Mystery Writers of America to authors of distinguished work in various categories of the genre.

9-17-05 New Books in Progress

I am currently working on two new books:  a young adult novel called Things Hoped For (the sequel to Things Not Seen), and a middle grades novel titled Room One.  Both should be available by summer of 2006.  There are also two new picture books in the works at Simon and Schuster:  A Million is a Lot of Dots and DOGKU.  Stay tuned for more details.

7-31-05 Things Not Seen chosen to receive 2005 California Young Readers Medal

Middle school kids in California voted an award for my young adult novel Things Not Seen, and I'm grateful for the honor. I'll be traveling to accept the award in person at the California Association of Teachers of English convention in February, 2006.  

7-1-05 A Week in the Woods wins 2004-2005 Iowa Children's Choice Award

23,000 kids in participated in the Iowa Children's Choice Award voting--an inspiring tribute to the teachers and parents of Iowa.  I've received a beautifully engraved brass school bell to commemorate the award, and it has a place of honor on the mantel in our family room.
